So as previously explained we are working very hard behind the scenes at BRM to bring you better quality and easier image hosting that is an improvement on the native forum functionality.
Well, the great news is that we are nearly ready to launch it.
What does this mean? Well essentially this will give you the ability to upload good size images and video (subject to a sensible size cap) direct from your own desktop, ipad, phone etc. straight to the forum, rather than having to rely on external image hosting providers. Less hassle for you, better threads for all and we don’t risk landing up with countless ruined threads if the external image hosting company tries to pull a Photobucket like stunt and hold us all to ransom.
This in no way has been an easy feat, there is no off the shelf solution and everything has been custom developed for the site. As such the system is currently under remote testing and debugging, if all goes to plan we should be able to roll it out shortly.
The BRM team are delighted with the uptake and the support for the forum especially now the threads are expanding and the forum is starting to come alive, this update is a result of that as there would be no point without you the contributors. So as long as the content keeps coming, we'll continue to concentrate all our efforts on just keeping this place fresh, vibrant, and perhaps slightly on the edge of track limits.
Update time for you all - having completed the trials we are currently migrating the new image hosting platform to the forum as this post is being written - all that should be left to undertake is a simple 'How to Post Images' guide (the old system with the thumbnails will become redundant / disabled) - It's a very straight forward process allowing you to upload directly from your own image files - we will be on hand to address any questions / issues that members may encounter (but we are hoping that it will be all plain sailing)
Posted below is the difference it will make - first image is from the old thumbnail system and the second image using the new image uploading system which allows much larger images - both images uploaded directly from the same file - back in touch shortly with the user guide
Firstly, and arguably most importantly, thank you for sticking with us while we tried to figure an image hosting solution out. The native forum 'attachments' solution is poor at best and unless you were already using another hosting site elsewhere, the options were limited as to what you could do.
Anyway the good news is that the more observant of you will have seen that the new image uploader is now live and working amongst us. Hopefully this means that those in the know who were holding back can crack on, (you know who you are), and everyone gets to reap the rewards of threads with better images - let's face it everything is better with something to look at
How to use All should be fairly self-explanatory but just in case some brief instructions below:
Desktop view users To add an image when in quick reply, simply hit the 'Add image' button to start the process.
You will then see a popup from the forum to tell you whether your upload was successful or not
Simply click 'OK' and the image code will be inserted into your post.
To add an image in reply mode, you will need to use the furthest icon on the right of the toolbar
Again you will see the pop up and the code will be inserted once you hit 'OK'
Mobile users Unfortunately due to restrictions on what Proboards will allow you to display in mobile view (to aid loading times etc.), this feature is not yet available in pure mobile view, you will need to switch to desktop view and follow the above instructions.
Attachments We will soon be turning off the attachments function of the site, primarily as it is another cost for increased storage and it's nice to have everything in one place. I'm confident this will not affect any existing threads but we will test and confirm once it's ready to be removed.
Enjoy, Admin.
